Prisoners of conscience call for fasting

 

Prisoners of conscience of the group of 75, imprisoned in the maximum security prison Combinado del Este, on the outskirts of Havana, called Monday for fasting and Bible readings in commemoration of March 18, "date nefarious that the seventh anniversary of the infamous crackdown that led to prison unjustly to a worthy group of Cubans. "

 

The activists will make the fast between 12 and 31 this March.

 

The call was forwarded to the agency Cubanet by dissident economist Oscar Espinosa Chepe, and is signed by political prisoners Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, Julio César Gálvez, Ricardo González Alfonso, Norman Hernandez, Regis Iglesias, and Angel Moya.

 

The document contains four demands:

 

-An immediate end to the cruel and inhumane to the Damas de Blanco

 

-Make it respected the International Covenants on Human Rights, Civil and Political, Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to which the Cuban government is a signatory

 

-That will be respected and obeyed by the Cuban government No.9, 2003 Opinion of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detentions of the United Nations Organization (UNO), who found innocent at 75 and peaceful political opposition intellectuals arrested in the Black Spring of Cuba

 

-Let all Cubans start the process of peaceful change towards freedom and democracy

 

"All men and women of goodwill who want to join with his fasts, prayers or other charitable initiatives in this spirit of fraternity and solidarity, can join us," concludes the political prisoners.
